About us

About us? Hmm.. We both have the same favorite color: blue. We like most of the same things, though we invest in a healthy level of disagreement. We love conversation and doing things outside (we try to be active) but we also enjoy zoning out and doing nothing all day. Lately, our lives have been taken up with our kids Samar and Nimesha.

We also wanted to share the meaning of what our names mean since we have been asked so many times. They were not just random meaningless picks.

Sandhya most easily calls herself Sandy as well, especially with friends. “Sandhya” in Sanskrit, means Twilight or the meeting of 2 different lights or times. So it means Dawn and Dusk. Named so there would be an “S” to match her parents’ names.

Mark is short for Marcel, which in French means Warrior. He certainly goes to bat for somethings, especially if they were to concern computers or electronics.

For our first baby, we looked for simple names. We thought Samar meant Warrior in Arabic but soon found out that Samar in Arabic is a cognate of the Hebrew shamar, meaning ‘to preserve’. And then ‘the shadow of the moon’ is another meaning of ’samar’. And finally “evening conversations.” Since it also meant War in Sanskrit and had a negative connotation, we added the middle name of Jeet which means Victory in Hindi. He is just a little guy with big shoes to fill – Victory to the Little Warrior or the Preserver of Victory! We all know he is quite strong willed but quite compassionate and thoughtful as well.

With our unexpected surprise second one, we were all just floored by how just within moments of knowing she was coming, all 3 of us found our lives changing. Nimesha Zoë stuck and Samar, in less than a minute after we found out we were having a girl, shortened that to Mesha. Nimesha means “in a a blink of an eye, in the shortest moment in time” in Sanskrit; Zoë is a popular German name and in Greek means “Life”. As we like to say: She entered our family of 3 unexpectedly, in the blink of an eye, and changed all our lives forever. She fought for Life and she certainly seems to enjoy the little moments… most of the time.

That’s it for now! Enjoy~
